After a year with Guide Dogs I have decide to start my own business dealing with adaptive technology. It is called Tasmanian Living Technology. I will still be working closely with the Guide Dogs, but having my own business will allow me to undertake some accessible web development again, as well as getting involved in importing some exciting techno goodies for vision impaired users into Australia.

Who are you?

An IT consultant specialising in web application design and development with an emphasis on usability and accessibility. I'm also pretty handy with databases, especially SQL Server.

What's your background?

I have recently finished a 5 and a half year stint at a very big investment banking firm in London. While there I built their European Intranet Content Management system, a few project management systems and some trading systems. Take a look at a few examples.

What can you do for me?

Save you a lot of money in the long run. Most people will google your business name before making a purchase and your site will be their first impression - but looks aren't always everything. If you can't find out whether they're open on a Sunday within 10 seconds you've probably lost their business.

Where possible I also use open source products and creative commons licenses for artwork and photography. This means no long term vendor lock-in. If I'm not doing a good job, then you are free to take the code and work elsewhere.

Finally I'm can save you money by making your site accessible to all types of sight and hearing challenged users. Think of it as a wheelchair ramp for your website. If you aren't doing this now, you will be soon. In the USA all government sites must now comply with Section 508 of the US Rehabilitation Act. In 1999 SOGOC even got sued. In Australia we're probably about 2 years away from such legislation, and it is much easier to build such functionality in at the onset of a web project.

I haven't got time for development - I need a site now!

I can install and host a generic Drupal, Wordpress or Mediawiki system with a very short lead-in (e.g. within days), although any bespoke requirements will add time to this.

Anything Else?

I'm a competent photographer and have my own stock collection taken from the 38 countries I've visited. I've even had 2 feature photos on wikipedia, the 30th most trafficked site on our planet.
