Just spent a week in LA in Hollywood cruising round, checking out the sights. Now in Hawaii, doing a whole lot of nothing, with one week left to go.
Made it to Las Vegas. On the home strip now after doing about 9000km. L.A. tomorrow to hang out in Santa Monica for a week swimming and doing a whole lot of nothing.
Well we’re in Amarillo, Texas and they really do wear cowboy hats down this way. Been to the (in)famous 72oz free Texas Steakhouse and watch two german valiantly attempt to eat the monster steak.
Currently in Chicago which is a pretty snazzy place. A nice change after the endless highways filled with Walmart after Walmart in the South. Tomorrow we “offically” start route 66, heading for Springfield tomorrow night.
Well we’ve made it to the US and are presently in Memphis after checking out Graceland. It wasn’t half as tacky as one would think and it was quite tasteful in a brady bunch type of way. So far we’ve been to Miami, Cape Canaveral, Lake City, Mobile, New Orleans, Vicksburg and Memphis. Tomorrow we head to Nashville and hope to be in Chicago by the weekend. I’m slowing adding photos.
Well it’s been a crazy week in London. Live8, then we got the Olympics, then bombings and today is my last day of work. Its probably a good time to get out.
I’m feeling pretty lucky as I catch the Piccadilly Line everyday to Kings Cross at about 7:35am, then change to the circle line through to Farringdon. My work is not far from Liverpool Street where another bomb went off, though the only clue was the constant stream of people having to walk due to the tube shutdown aswell as the numerous sirens. Had to walk to work this morning cause the Piccadilly line is out of action and will likely be out for quite some time.
Starting to wind things up over here in London. It’s 32 degrees today, so it’s stinking hot. The english are funny in heat. It reminds me of World Series Cricket in the 70’s with the lobster look, except its jeans and no top.
Anyway, plane tickets are booked:
Pickup a chevy in Miami, drop it in LA. We’ve got a lot of driving ahead of us, but it should be fun. A week in Hawaii to chill, then a nasty three stop flight back to Launceston. Our US itenary is list here. I hope to be updating this page whilst I’m on the move, rather than sending out the usual bulk mail.
This site is now running on a zippy miniserver from memset. I’ve managed to convert everything across without to much trouble, although there were a few problems with mysql, as debian runs version 3 by default as opposed to 5 on my mini. Also, I’m out of the google sandbox, and now number 1!
All my support to OpenRAW. I’m sick of formerly good companies using bullying tactics to lock customers into a corner so they can produce second rate products without fear of users turning to an alternative.
I have a Nikon D100 which will probably be my last nikon purchase unless they reverse their decision to encrypt RAW files so the only thing you can use to view your pictures in their sh*tty software. When will they realise that maing a product LESS useful and LESS interchangable is stupid.
I finally took the plunge and bought a 15″ powerbook, and then this happens. I’m not too worried, as its a lovely machine, and I dind’t really buy it for speed in the first place. Mainly for burning CD’s from my camera when travelling , and running web bits like php and so forth, so I can’t image these will become obsolete within the next 3 or 4 years for what I’m doing with it
